gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, vegan, soy-free, sugar-free
Call me a prude, but I’m not usually one to give recipes away within the first few sentences of a post. I like to talk first. Make a connection. Develop a relationship. Today, I abandon my conservative recipe-sharing nature. I throw it to the winds! And I laugh maniacally at my newfound wild side!
1 cup non-dairy milk (I like half unsweetened rice and half unsweetened hemp)
2 heaping Tbsp chocolate protein powder (I like Nutribiotic best for shakes!)
1 large frozen banana
1 large handful of raw spinach
1 serving of Delicious Greens 8000, Chocolate flavor
Any extra add-ins like raw maca powder, glutamine powder, etc.
It tastes like a chocolate milkshake. It tastes like a rich, chocolatey-chocolate, milky-milkshake. In other words: Nirvana. The kicker? The nutritional content. You might as well dig up a bunch of raw vegetables from a garden and just eat them, dirt and all. Now imagine doing that, but discovering that they taste like a CHOCOLATE FREAKING MILKSHAKE. Yes, I am quite enthusiastic.
That’s not the only perk. This lovely refreshment comes with a SONG. Some of you may be familiar with Justin Timberlake’s brilliant digital short on SNL featuring a very…err… special gift (“in a box”) for the beloved woman (or man) in one’s life. Substitute “greens in a glass” for the title phrase in the chorus, and you’ve got yourself a little ditty to sing every time you start blending, baby.
I know what you’re thinking. This is not much of a recipe. It is no culinary feat worthy of having its own post. But it’s not really about the recipe. I’ve been making chocolate protein shakes with hemp milk, banana, and spinach for at least a year now. Not once had I ever tried adding any superfood mix. Then this nice lady named Jenny contacted me through OpenSky, telling me she’d like to send me samples of her “Delicious Greens 8000” because she thought I’d like it a whole lot. I’m going to be honest; I wasn’t particularly excited about trying out some green junk from a packet. I like my vegetables un-powdered, thank you very much. So you can imagine my surprise upon taking a sip of the stuff and deeming it nothing short of scrumptious! Not to mention it is gluten free, vegan, sugar-free, and completely organic. Hey, it is no replacement for fresh, raw veggies, but it is definitely a great supplement for an already stellar diet!
Just thought I’d share it with you guys, since it’s a small family owned company you probably wouldn’t stumble across on your own and since I’m now their newest, biggest fan! :) So, if you’re feeling like you need an extra nutritional boost, try it! I love the chocolate flavor, and I also love the berry flavor, which I’ve added to a protein shake made with frozen blueberries and mixed berry flavored Nutribiotic protein powder. The cherry on top of all of that is both flavors of Delicious Greens 800 are currently on sale for 17% off, saving you $6! Woohoo!
Lastly, speaking of OpenSky magic… I’ve got another special for you all for Nuttzo Peanut Free Nut Butter. If this is the first you’ve heard about my love for Nuttzo, then this is all you must know: it is like crack for the nut butter fiend. A few other reasons why I love Nuttzo so much are that is contains SEVEN organic nuts and seeds, it’s gluten-free and vegan, and 1% of sales go to projectLeftBehind.org. Right now, a 16oz jar of Nuttzo PF is $5 OFF (23% OFF), so (read the following in your best cheesy salesman voice) I’d grab it while it’s hot ’cause there is no telling how long this sale will last.
